5 MINS

We’ve all heard the old line “It’s not you, it’s me” played out in rom-coms and sitcoms. Well this statement is more than a get out of jail free card, it actually has massive application to life and work.

Let’s be clear though, it’s not just a line; there’s a deep truth to it, that can massively impact the coaching relationship.

5 MINS

“It’s okay. This is a safe space” she says with a zen tone and empathetic tilt of the head. Just try and not laugh when someone says that.

Corn-ball lines aside, coaching is about creating an environment where people feel safe to share their struggles and stories and to do so quickly.

5 MINS

So now we have explored your mindset and your approach to coaching, let’s get clear on what the process is, the COACHING MASTERY process that is.

This is where we get all geeky flow chart on you and walk you though a clear and logical road map to making the coaching process come to life.

THREE BOOKS TO CHALLENGE HOW YOU TURN UP TO THE COACHING RELATIONSHIP…

#1: The Speed of Trust by Stephen Covey

If you don’t have time to read this right now here is the TED talk version of this content.

#2: Dare to Lead by Brene Brown

#3: Positive Psychology Coaching in Practice by Suzy Green and Stephen Palmer

TWO THOUGHT PROVOKING VIDEOS TO GET YOU IN THE BEST SPACE TO COACH

How to build and rebuild trust

Trust is the foundation for everything we do. But what do we do when it's broken? In an eye-opening talk, Harvard Business School professor Frances Frei gives a crash course in trust: how to build it, maintain it and rebuild it -- something she worked on during a recent stint at Uber. "If we can learn to trust one another more, we can have unprecedented human progress," Frei says.

The power of believing that you can improve

Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, viewed by more then 9 million people, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? A great introduction to this influential field.

TWO INTERESTING ARTICLES TO DEEP DIVE FURTHER INTO THIS TOPIC…

This article demonstrates an example of the latest thinking to be emerging regarding coaching in the workplace. Engaging in this coaching course is sharpening a skill set that is becomingly increasingly valued amongst todays leaders.

A lot of great data around psychological safety in the workplace was generated when tech giant Google took on ‘Project Aristotle’ as a way to really understand what makes for the best workplaces. Turns out psychological safety is the common denominator.

WELL DONE YOU!
